Trivial Propaganda Events in Chile Highlight Cuba’s Failed “Free the 5!” Campaign 1

According to the Cuban News Agency (ACN), the Chilean Solidarity-with-Cuba Movement awarded medals to Rene Gonzalez, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez, Ramon Labañino and Gerardo Hernandez.  Four of the five spies remain in prison in the US, while their colleague enjoys his supervised probation somewhere in Florida.   The medals were received by representatives of the Cuban embassy in Chile.  Also reportedly attending were Communist Party members, representatives of a local union and academic group, and area residents.  Cuban media did not comment on the number of attendees, suggesting a mediocre turnout.

ACN also trumpeted the opening of a Cuban Film Festival 253 miles away in the municipality of Ovalle, Chile.  Among the predictable lineup of movie selections was “Will the Real Terrorist Please Stand Up?,” directed by Castro apologist Saul Landau.

  1. Even though there were not that many people attending this reunion, the Cuban government will lie saying there were thousands attending this activity.
