ALBA Ambassadors Attend Colloquium for the Cuban Five 1

Holguin, Cuba, Nov 21.- (Cuban News Agency – ACN) Ambassadors from all Spanish-speaking countries with the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our Americas, plus Haiti, will participate at the 8th International Colloquium for the Freedom of the Cuban Five and against Terrorism, to take place from November 29 to December 1 in this eastern Cuban city.

The forum gathers friends from several countries that support the cause of the five Cuban antiterrorist fighters held in the United States since 1998 for having prevented terrorist actions against the Cuban people.
Cuban Friendship Institute delegate in Holguin Amaury Torno told reporters that the meeting will be attended by the ambassadors of Haiti, Nicaragua, Bolivia, Ecuador and Venezuela. The Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our Americas, known by its acronyms ALBA, is also made up of Dominica, Antigua and Barbuda, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. The official said that over 340 delegates from 47 countries from around the world have confirmed participation at the colloquium, with the largest delegations coming from Russia, Bulgaria, Italy, Venezuela, Canada, Spain and the United States.

Like in previous occasions, the forum will become an international scenario to denounce the injustice committed against Gerardo Hernandez, Fernando Gonzalez, René Gonzalez, Antonio Guerrero and Ramón Labañino, internationally known as the Cuban Five. The five antiterrorist fighters, heroes of the Republic of Cuba, were submitted to a biased Miami trial that gave them extremely long sentences after they monitored Florida-based ultra-right organizations that have planned and undertaken terrorist actions against Cuba over the past five decades.

  1. Red Avispa did not prevent any terrorist attack on the Cuban tourist industry. Its members did not stop Ernesto Cruz León from carrying out the bomb attack in a Havana hotel which resulted in the death of an Italian tourist and the wounding of several other foreigners. They could not infiltrate Alpha 66 or Omega 7 paramilitary organizations and they did not keep tabs on Luis Posada Carriles who masterminded the 1997 bomb attacks against the Havana hotels. Instead, Red Avispa infiltrated the wrong organization, “Hermanos al Rescate” which was humanitarian and not terrorist and was responsible for an act of state terrorism: the shooting down of 2 unarmed planes over international waters. Let it be crystal clear!

Percy Francisco Alvarado Godoy, the former MININT spy, claims to have prevented the bombing of Tropicana night club on orders from La Fundación Nacional Cubano-Americana but this press manipulator and disinformation peddlar has a low credibility and anyway he was not a member of Red Avispa.

The forum in Holguín is sponsored by the “Instituto Cubano de Amistad con los Pueblos” (ICAP) a well known front for the MININT and the event organizers have forgotten that Ed Levy, one of the Red Avispa members, was a former employee of ICAP. This is sloppy trade craft and patchwork by the MININT. Since the withdrawal of the Soviet advisers, “los compañeros del G-2” are hard put to come up with original ideas. And I bet that our friend, Percy Francisco Alvadado Godoy, is also actively involved in this farce.

The Colloquium for the Cuban 5 also falls short of being a real example of “active measures”, that is changing the participants’ perception of the US policy toward Cuba since the audience is entirely made up sympathetic listeners and yes men, of allies of the Castroist regime. Solidarity and thunderous applause are guaranteed beforehand.

I think this show of solidarity is serving a different purpose. “Los muchachos del G-2” may be having a lot of difficulty in finding new recruits for their subversive activities and are trying very hard to prove that they never let down one of their spies who gets burned and lands in jail. So, the message of the colloquium to G-2’s potential recruits is “Hey guys, join us! We’ll leave no stone unturned in our efforts to get you out of jail”.
