Today in History: Leadership Change at Cuban Spy Center in Jamaica 1

March 18, 1964: Julian Novas Fernandez arrived at his new job as the Commercial Attaché in Kingston. According to a CIA source, Novas was suspected of replacing Gerardo Sanchez Robert as chief of the Directorate General of Intelligence (DGI) Centro hidden within the Cuban Embassy.

  1. The bother of Gerardo Sanchez Robert, Guido, in the late 1940s was a member of the Movimiento Socialista Revolucionario (MSR) headed by Rolando Masferrer, leader of the paramilitary group the Tigers of Masferrer in 1957-58..
